Generic Glucovance is an orally administered anti-diabetic drug that is made to control blood sugar levels and insulin production. Generic Glucovance is most often used to help manage type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent diabetes), metformin hydrochloride and glyburide. Generic Glucovance is made with a combination of glyburide and metformin for dual-action treatment of blood sugar levels. Glyburide is a sulfonylurea that works to activate the release of naturally formed insulin in the body and hinder the production of sugar in the liver. Metformin, a biguanide, works together with Glyburide to further reduce the amount of sugar in the liver, and to impede the absorption of sugar in the intestines and stomach. Generic Glucovance is not made to treat type 1 diabetes. Consult your doctor before taking Generic Glucovance for either above mentioned conditions, or alternative uses.
